Crimson Sunbird (Aethopyga siparaja) Pictures and Detail

Some birds simply surprise you with their presence and Crimson Sunbird is one of them. Those people who have seen this bird, they know exactly what I am talking.

It is very hard to imagine that a so small bird can look so beautiful. Crimson Sunbird is a very small bird or we can say a tiny bird; however, nature has given this bird very attractive look and colors.

Sometimes, Crimson Sunbird is mistaken as a hummingbird by people who saw it for the first time. I feel very lucky because I got a chance to see it and took some of its pictures.

During one of my visits to the Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh, this bird suddenly came in front of me like he was saying me to take its pictures. I was also looking for this option so I immediately took some of its pictures.

In general, it is not easy to take the picture of this tiny bird because first, it is a very small bird second, it keeps on moving fast from one location to another. Moreover, it is even difficult to search this bird because it doesn't appear for a long time.

These birds, mainly feed on nectar, but also eat insects. It is quite interesting to have this small colorful bird around and take its pictures.

Crimson Sunbird is a breeder bird of Asia and we can find it from Indian to Indonesia.

The good news about Crimson Sunbird is that it is not in the list of birds under danger because there are in the category of least concern.

Some people even refer these birds as mysterious birds because of less knowledge about their life. Crimson Sunbirds are placed in taxonomic family Nectariniidae. These are old world birds, meaning birds from Asia, Europe etc.

In general, this bird is seen alone looking for the nectar. The beak of Crimson Sunbird has special curving so that it can easily absorb nectar from flowers.

Crimson Sunbird is the national bird of Singapore. We can find clear difference in male and female Crimson Sunbirds. The Male Crimson Sunbird has crimson colored breast, maroon back and olive colored belly while the female bird has yellow breast and olive green back.

Update 4/Aug/2015- I am adding three more pictures of the Crimson Sunbird. These pictures I took during my last visit to Baijnath (Hiamchal). At this place, I noticed a few of Crimson Sunbirds, due to their small size, it is mostly difficult to notice them; however, their sharp colors provide a great help in noticing them.
